As The Past Comes Down

from I Shall Always Be Your Ancestor by Kenyon Bunton

lyrics

Food on my table, a mood for a killing.
The face of an angel, comes up from below.
Though there is a secret, down there in the rubble.
It’s not a secret I’m ever gonna know.

The past may be awkward, the past may be hidden.
The past may be buried, down deep in the ground.
But look passed the screaming and look passed the anger.
Our past is here as the walls came down.

They’re lying there bleeding, though they didn’t know it.
They’re there making history, out there on TV.
They wished they’d’ve seen it, wave hi to the camera.
Smile and dance as you’re brought to your knees.

How green the grass grows, I’m here looking backwards.
The river flows, onwards to the sea.
I think we know, there’s things I can’t see yet.
And, it looks as though invented for me.

The nights are not silent, the days are too short.
The heat is obsessive, it thumps in my head.
There’s too many people, all screaming and shouting.
And I wish most of them were dead.

Apology given, what more can I say?
There are things in the sea which kill.
I enter the water, with only a pencil.
And I swim ‘til my heart goes still.
