The End of a Superhero

A home alone I’m really cold
A little tired and very old
The keys are on the table by the facemask, by the secret book the poisoned hook
I take the costume off one final time and lay it down next to the bedside all alone.
A final effort come and gone a final cry and now I’m done
A city begs in need of further heroes.
I tried my best, I wore my vest I more than passed the test and now I fall to earth to be forgotten.

The times have changed and rearranged the things we once felt mighty strange
The darkness of the end is here upon us bear down on us, no more superhero no more sacrifice, a rest would sure feel super nice, a soft bed where to lay my head, and words of comfort spoke alone before we’re definitely dead.
This planet has awoken and has spoken, and it doesn’t want us here.
Have I saved my last for best?

I know a simple trick or two
A sleight of hand an unplanned retroguard attempt to pull on through the substance at the heart of every living thing upon this earth, to form it and expand it and to heal it.
It seems to me no prize is greater than the will of that above us to succumb and succumb quietly as we are but enzymes in a greater being ill of us and trying as it might just to survive us.

No superhero such as me, no special power no symmetry should try to kill the beast on which we all depend, no truth reason religion nor the hope of steel-like skin, my isolation, lazer eyes , the need to fly, should ever win.
I know it sounds at odds with all the battles I have fought and the destruction I have wrought to gain the peace I’ve always sought.
Have I saved my last for best?
